中義the record-keeper's implementa vessel of counting-tallies in one telling, a writing board in the other
A hand (又) grips the record (中) — the keeper of the records: the scribe. The old graph carries two tellings of what the hand holds: a vessel of counting-tallies, or the writing board — either way, the record in hand. What the scribes wrote down took their name: 歷史、史書.
