ITpí → bǐ — p- softened to b-, tone falls
A step (彳) for going-toward, with 皮 pí for the sound, p- softening to b- and the tone falling. The original is to go thither, over there — and from "over there" comes the pointing word: that one, the other side: 彼此、彼方. The same 皮 builds 波、破、披.
