The hand (扌) does it; 氐 dǐ carries the sound and a picture of a low base pressed down. The hand pushes something down to its base — to arrive at the bottom (抵達), to push back against a force (抵抗), to set one thing against another (抵消). It rides the 氐 series: 底、低、柢.
