字源 FORM — what the parts do
Sun (日) rising among the grass while the moon (月) still hangs — the graph catches daybreak, the two lights overlapping. The right side, now written 月, wore down from 舟 (zhōu), the old sound. Morning is the 朝 read zhāo; the dawn audience a ruler held grew into 朝 the court, read cháo.
