Water (氵) with 昆 kūn, a swarm gathered as one. Pour everything into the water and let it run together until the parts lose their edges — to mix, to blend (混合). From things losing their separateness: muddied water (混濁), and getting by while blurring into the crowd (混日子). The sound slid from k to h.
