Water (氵) at body heat — warm. The right side 昷 carries the sound wēn and a picture of warmth that comes down in two tellings: a vessel (皿) under the sun (日) heating up, or a bowl of food (皿) passed to someone shut in (囚) — warmth held, warmth given. From warm water comes the hot spring (溫泉), a mild temper (溫和), and a gentle warmth toward people (溫暖).
