The old graph carries two tellings: a sprout (屮) rising from a field (田) — a bed of seedlings, the picture that grew into 圃, a garden; or 用 with 父, where 父 fù also lends the sound. From the seedling field it was borrowed as a polite name for a man, and as "just now."
