與
與 = 舁 + 与
ㄩˇ · yǔ/yù
verb/prep — to give; with, and; (yù) to take part in
字源 FORM — what the parts do
舁義four hands lifting together
与義one hand passing something across
Four hands (舁) raise a thing together while one more (与) hands it across — a thing passed between people. From that joint giving come both senses: to give (給與), and the small word that links two parties, with and (與你一起). Read yù, it is taking part — 參與.
故事 STORY — a scene to remember it by
幾雙手一起把東西抬起來(舁),再遞到對面手(与)裡——這就是「與」。
Several hands hoist the thing together (舁), then pass it across to the waiting hand (与) — that handing-over is 與.
