IF≠任 rèn → 賃 lìn — the onset shifts r- to l- and the final closes en → in
任 (rèn) over a cowrie (貝, money) — 說文 reads it 庸也, to hire. Money changes hands so you can take on the use of a thing for a time: 租賃, 賃屋, to rent. The sound moved off its donor, rèn to lìn.
